Ear Training! One of the most important activities to improve your guitar playing... Start TODAY!!!

June 24, 2015

Ear training...  huh?? No, I don't mean putting on exercise gear and doing push ups using your ears.  Ear training is about making the sounds you hear, into sounds you can play on guitar. It also helps you translate a musical idea into a song or composition.

Developing your musical ear will help in every aspect of you becoming a better guitarist. It helps with everything from musical memory, to speeding up the time it takes to learn new music, and of course it helps with the musicality of your playing.

"That's great" I hear you say, "but how?"

Well, it's all about learning to focus your hearing, because after all, music is all about listening.

Have you ever watched a movie or read a book (or ipad) and been so completely absorbed that you felt like you had been transported to another world? If the answer is yes, then you have experienced the wonderful power of focus.  This same feeling of ultra concentration is what we use in ear training (and later when learning songs by ear, or composing and songwriting....as well as playing!)

Here are a couple of websites that will help you grow your ear.
